Grant Wood Art Gallery

Located in an old bank building constructed in 1884, the Grant Wood Art Gallery has been in existence since 1987.  Its sculptured walls and high tin ceiling have been artistically painted to compliment the beauty of the many framed Grant Wood prints on display.  Two original murals rescued from the Chieftain Hotel in Council Bluffs, Iowa are on loan to us.
A large collection of American Gothic parodies are on display in two rooms.  Four different videos pertaining to Grant Wood are available for viewing in a room that seats twenty.  (Larger groups can be divided with a tour guide talking about his life and works in the main room.)  Photos of the Grant Wood Art Colony in Stone City are hanging in one area and framed illustrations from Farm On The Hill in another.
An original chair designed by Grant Wood proudly sits in one corner.  A life size cut out of American Gothic offers a fun photo op.  One of the American Gothic statues (also life size) from the Overalls All Over  exhibit in Cedar Rapids several years ago stands guard over displays of merchandise.  A large rack holds free local and tri-state informational brochures and maps.

The Gallery is staffed completely by volunteers.  We do not charge an admission for individuals or school groups.
